The Final Curtain Call for The Madge

After my mom died nearly 18 years ago, my dad recognized that early detection was the key to saving lives from breast cancer. Wanting to do something to help prevent other women from sharing the same fate as my mom - and as a father of 3 daughters - he felt compelled to take action.

The Madge Golf Charity Golf Tournament was born in the fall of 1993, only 6 months after my mom died. Since this time, the tournament has grown each year and it has been extremely successful at achieving its dual aims of raising funds for breast cancer research at The Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton (ironically this is where I am now being treated) and also for raising awareness about breast cancer.

Hats off to an amazing group of volunteers, sponsors and participants who have generously donated an enourmous amount of time, energy and money to this charity event over the years. Sadly, this was the final year for The Madge Tournament and I just wanted to share that the grand tally raised since 1993 is a whopping $1,010,000....a pretty amazing accomplishment!!!
